KATE HUME
Kate Hume was born in Britain and lived in The United States and France, before settling in Amsterdam ten years ago. Having worked in many areas of design, from fashion to film, she and her husband Frans van der Heyden launched Birdman Furniture in 1998. A collection of high quality, contemporary pieces, the collection is now sold worldwide.
Kate initially designed a range of unique glass vases purely as a compliment to the furniture, but these langourous, organic forms now adorn some of the most beautiful homes in the world.
Several years ago, Kate was approached by one of her clients to design a complete environment and her interior design company was born. Combining Kate’s international experience, extensive resources for art and antiques, and love of colour and form, this seemed a natural progression. With her team of dedicated co-workers and talented craftsmen, Kate has gained a reputation for delivering unique, personal interiors that are tailored to her clients needs, yet have a distinctive flair and style all their own.
Current projects include a contemporary mansion outside Moscow, a penthouse in Europe’s tallest building, a row of 18th Century town houses in London’s Belgravia, and a luxury loft in Amsterdam. Her work has been featured in many international publications including Architectural Digest, Elle Decoration, Harpers Bazaar and Metropolitan Home.
